This website relates my understanding of the origins of the Henderson and Goodwin families that form my paternal and maternal ancestral lines.
I have been researching my family tree since 2008 - it remains a work in progress so please come and visit again.

Supported by DNA, my Henderson side were probably Scottish Planters who settled in Cavan, Ireland, during the 1600s. Three hundred years later, the family left their rural existence and moved east to the mill town of Bessbrook before settling in Belfast where my grandfather George Henderson married Clara McWilliams. Meanwhile, the maternal strands of my family were living in the English counties of Staffordshire (my grandfather Arthur Henry Goodwin) and Norfolk (my grandmother Alice Ann Cooper).

I do have some favourites: the Dunns of Stiffkey were brought to life after obtaining an copy of Charles Loftus's biography "My Life: From 1815 to 1849" that describes the smuggling that went on in the village; the burial of John and Ann Roper in the ‘lost’ village of Houghton-on-the-Hill beside a woman accused of being a witch and haunted by Carmelite ghosts; the Mussetts of Wells-next-the-Sea who were sea-faring Huguenot refugees; and the landed family that was the Coopers of Hingham and their connection with significant historical figures in England the US.

During my searches I have met and corresponded with many interesting people and discovered previously unknown living relatives. This website is dedicated to sharing my findings with them and family and anyone else with a passing interest.
