Courtney Family 1790 -
The Courtney family were possibly from County Longford and neighbouring Cavan (home to the Henderson family) to the west. The whole family was close to the Hendersons since both families moved to Belfast.

Being cited only on the birth record for his son James, Daniel's birth year is unknown but probably about 1790. His wife's name is also unknown.
James Courtney 1811 - ? (3ggf)
He was born in 1811 Co. Cavan. He married Ann - her family name is unknown. They had at least one recorded son, John (below).
John Courtney 1837 - 1904 (2ggf)John was born in 1837 in Co. Cavan. He was a general labourer and married a 17-year old servant girl named Elizabeth "Bessie" Little[2] in Urney, Cavan 1856 (record). The record confirms their respective fathers' names and that John had been living in Dumilis (townland of Urney) while Bessie was from Half Acre in Cavan town. Evident from the 1901 census, neither John nor Bessie could read and write.
The couple had nine children: 1858 Mary Anne (my ggm) born in Swellan, Cavan 1865 Margaret born in Swellan 1867 Joseph born in Anamore, Cavan 1869 John born in Drumilis, Cavan 1871 Robert born in Drumilis. He died aged 4 1874 James born in Belfast. 1876 Sarah Jane born in Belfast 1878 Robert born in Belfast and was married to Mary Jane "Janey" Rice. He died in 1953 1884 Thomas born in Belfast By 1874 the family had moved to Belfast (Longford Street in the 1901 census) and later on, after John had died on 2 January 1904 (they were living in North Boundary Street), Bessie went to stay with my great grandmother and son-in-law John Henderson in Fleming Street. John is buried in the city cemetery on Falls Road. |
Mary Anne Courtney (ggm)
Mary Anne was born in the summer of 1858 in Swellan on the west side of Cavan. She married a farmer named John Henderson (my ggf) of nearby Drumkeen.
